Menstrual Hygiene is defined by UNICEF as access to menstrual hygiene products to absorb or collect the flow of blood during menstruation, privacy to change the materials, and access to facilities to dispose off used menstrual management materials.
We keep getting overwhelmed at the threats that these young girls face due to poor information about personal and menstrual hygiene. We all can do something to change this. As a team, we’re glad that we are part of offering positive solutions for these precious girls. Together, we are creating supportive menstrual health environments for girls and women in communities.
The Onset of menstruation means a new phase and new vulnerabilities in the lives of adolescents. Yet, many adolescent girls face stigma, harassment, and social exclusion during menstruation.
Gender inequality, discriminatory social norms, cultural norms, poverty, and lack of basic services like toilets and safe sanitary products can all cause menstrual health and hygiene needs to go unmet.
This has far reaching consequences for millions of people. It restricts their mobility and personal choices. It affects attendance in schools and participation in community life. And it compromises their safety, causing additional stress and anxiety.
Menstrual health and hygiene interventions can help overcome these obstacles. Not only do they fulfill the unmet demand for menstrual hygiene products, they also protect dignity, build confidence, and strengthen sexual and reproductive health particularly among adolescents.
At 1000HUGS Foundation, we believe in menstrual health equality. Regardless of status, everyone who menstruates deserves safe and dignified menstruation. Our goal is to create more menstrual-equitable communities.
Join the movement and help create a world where girls and young women are no longer held back because they menstruate.
Together, we can empower change. Supporting girls, young women and their families to thrive, adapt to changing needs and create safe, respectful places and communities to heal and grow.
Join us today and help us reach even more girls and women.
